A Message from Gretchen Crowe, President of CMA

Posted By: Gretchen Crowe Catholic Media Blog, The Catholic Journalist,

One of my favorite things to do each year after the Catholic Media Conference ends is to sit down with the fat awards issue, issues just like this, and read about all the work that has been accomplished by members of the Catholic Media Association in the prior calendar year. The breadth of talent and creativity, the storytelling and mastery of craft, the witty headlines and great imagery never fails to amaze me. I always learn from the work that is on display, and I know I am not alone. We have much to learn from one another, and that’s one of the big gifts of belonging to the CMA.

Not unlike being members of the body of Christ, we are all members of this smaller, more intimate body, joined together by our work in different, but still related, branches of Catholic communications and media. And though we might compete "against" one another, we know the competition is one that serves only to improve and strengthen the important work each of us does. That’s one of the reasons why the CMA is such a unique association — we are all in this together, in service to the Gospel. And so I can’t wait to sit down with this issue and read it cover to cover once more, marveling at all the work we do to, as our association mission statement says, “contribute to the Church’s mission of communicating the Good News and evangelizing the modern world by engaging and supporting Catholic media.”

Thank you for taking the time and energy, and for committing the resources, to enter the CMA awards. To all the winners: Congratulations! I can’t wait to learn from you.

In Christ,

Gretchen R. Crowe
President, CMA Board of Directors
